Bellaire Police appoints new Assistant Chief of Police

Bellaire Chief of Police Byron Holloway has appointed Lt. Michael Leal to the position of Assistant Chief of Police effective July 1. Leal was chosen after completion of an internal selection process.

Lt. Leal, who is 47 years old, began his career as a Patrolman with the Bellaire Police Department in 1988. He has served in various assignments over his career and is currently Commander of the Support Services Division which includes Emergency Communications Center and the Criminal Investigations Division.

Leal holds a Master Police Officer License, is a graduate of the Bill Blackwood Leadership and Command College located at Sam Houston State University, and is on the waiting list to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., He is fluent in Spanish and is the first Hispanic to ever hold the rank of Assistant Police Chief in the Bellaire Police Department.
