October 15, 2025

JASPER, Texas (EAST TEXAS NEWS) – The Jasper Police Department credits its K-9 for bringing an end to a high-speed chase across several counties that culminated in the arrest of a Louisiana man on Tuesday.

Julius T. Nix, 39, faces multiple felony charges.

According to a press release from the Jasper Police Department, the chase began in Lumberton at 3 a.m. when Nix dumped a large quantity of drugs and then drove at speeds over 100 miles per hour. Deputies from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the Silsbee Police Department, and the Kirbyville Police Department joined the pursuit and intercepted Nix in Buna.

Nix missed a turn on FM 363 in Kirbyville and crashed into an 18-wheeler. He then fled into a nearby wooded area and continued to discard drugs, according to the press release.

K-9 Mak, the Jasper Police canine, located Nix hiding in the woods along County Road 451, near Bon Ami. Nix was arrested and transported back to Hardin County.

The truck driver received on-site medical attention for minor injuries. “This is precisely why we invest in our K-9 program,” said Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster. “K-9 Mak has proven once again to be an invaluable asset to public safety.”
