Water Outage in Zavalla Due to Tampering Delays School Start

October 2, 2025

Zavalla, Texas (East Texas News) — According to the Zavalla City Hall, the town’s water system has been shut down due to external tampering.

The city says they were compelled to close the water system on Wednesday morning after discovering that someone had tampered with it. The extent of what occurred remains unclear to the city.

State officials will be in Zavalla to assess the water system and ensure its safety. However, the city notes that water service will be interrupted for at least 24 hours.

In addition, the Zavalla Independent School District (ZISD) has postponed the first day of classes due to water-security concerns.

Both the City of Zavalla and ZISD say they will issue updates on the situation on Thursday.

The city asks the public to stay vigilant and report anyone seen near the water wells. You can call 936-634-3332.
