Lufkin, Texas (East Texas News) — Arrest records indicate that a man who endured a roughly three-hour standoff with Lufkin officers was making threats after his girlfriend ended their relationship.
Jacqueline Zimmerman, the city’s public information officer, said police were called to an apartment in the 400 block of Montrose Street around 11:45 a.m. on July 27, in response to a domestic disturbance.
An affidavit obtained through a records request shows the dispute began when the suspect, Francisco Javier Farfán Jr., 20, refused to let a woman leave.
She was attempting to gather her belongings from the apartment, but Farfán shouted in her face and pulled her back inside by the arm, according to the document. Her mother, who was also present, allegedly alerted the police.
According to the affidavit, Farfán saw her talking on the phone and warned that if she called the police, he would reveal the reason for the call, pulling a 9 mm handgun from a backpack.
Zimmerman said that as officers approached, the women were able to exit the apartment, but Farfán remained inside.
Authorities deployed tear gas and a SWAT team was summoned before Farfán could be detained.
Farfán has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a protective order for assaulting a household member. He was booked into Angelina County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
At the time of this report, he remained in custody.
