Longview Man Sentenced to 10 More Years for Deadly Dog Attack

March 22, 2026

LONGVIEW, Texas (EAST TEXAS NEWS) – A Longview man who was convicted in connection with a fatal dog attack will now serve an additional 10 years in prison.

Martin Gilbert Rodríguez, 58, received a 15-year sentence in February after a jury found him guilty of a dog-related attack. Kenneth Pierson, 46, was found dead in the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Rayburn Drive in 2024.

Prior to the fatal attack, Rodríguez had been charged in April 2021 with a dog attack that caused serious bodily injuries and was sentenced to five years of probation.

Rodríguez appeared in court Thursday for a revocation hearing after prosecutors alleged that he violated several conditions of his bond, including the fatal attack, as well as drinking alcohol, failing to meet community service requirements, and failing to pay scheduled fees.

“I must consider the offense I was on probation for and the fact that, once again, nothing has changed. The behavior has remained the same,” said Judge Alfonso Charles.

Following the hearing, Charles sentenced Rodríguez to 10 additional years in prison, to begin once he completes the previous 15-year term.
