Troup Man Accused of Shooting North of Lindale

SMITH County, Texas (East Texas News) – The Smith County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man from Troup after a shooting in which a man suffered a leg injury on Wednesday night.

Justin Wayne Hayes, 28, is charged with aggravated assault.

According to a sheriff’s office report, someone called 911 at 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday to report a shooting in the 19,000 block of County Road 4116, just north of Lindale. Deputies and state police located a 35-year-old Lindale man with a gunshot wound to the left leg. An officer determined that the suspect had left the scene in a vehicle. As officers secured the area, one officer applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg.

An officer went to the 800 block of North Main Street in Lindale, where Hayes was taken into custody by a Lindale police officer. The officers recovered a pistol.

Hayes was arrested. The victim was transported to a Tyler hospital.
