TYLER, Texas (East Texas News) – The Tyler Police Department says it has detained a man from Arkansas in connection with a nighttime robbery.
The police indicate the robbery occurred just after midnight on the 1700 block of WSW Loop 323. The building’s alarm was triggered, prompting a response from officers.
Officers arrived at the business and say they saw a man who immediately fled from them. They were able to apprehend him without incident and take him into custody.
He has been identified as Levon Gates, Jr., 26, of Arkansas. While authorities were verifying his identity, they learned that he held several outstanding warrants from multiple East Texas agencies and from outside the state.
He was transported to the Smith County Jail and booked on multiple charges stemming from offenses committed on the scene, including burglary of a building, evading arrest, failure to identify, evading with a vehicle, marijuana possession, receiving stolen property, theft of property, burglary of a dwelling, terroristic threat, possession of a firearm by a felon, and other warrants awaiting resolution.
