97-Year-Old Panola County Man Survives Tornado That Hit His Home

PANOLA COUNTY, TX (EAST TEXAS NEWS) – A 97-year-old man managed to escape from his room after a powerful EF-2 tornado struck his home in the Fairplay community in the early hours of Tuesday.

Willis Wills’ family members said he was in bed when the tornado hit his house in the Fairplay community just after midnight. The storm sent debris onto him and his bed.

Wills managed to leave his room and enter the living room, where he sat on his couch until a truck driver pulled over to help him.

Several homes sustained damage in the Fairplay community. No serious injuries were reported.

A preliminary survey from the National Weather Service shows the storm was an EF-2 with maximum estimated winds of 130 mph.
