CBP Warns Residents to Carry Their Green Card at All Times

November 3, 2025

It is essential to keep your alien registration documents with you at all times. Not presenting them when federal authorities stop you can lead to a misdemeanor charge and fines, CBP warned on X.

According to the law, the post explains, “every foreign national aged 18 or older must carry at all times and keep in their personal possession any alien registration certificate or alien registration receipt that has been issued to them.”

“Not doing so can result in a misdemeanor and fines if you are detained by federal authorities. If you are not a citizen, please comply with the laws of the United States,” CBP adds.

While this isn’t a new issue, CBP’s reminder has been circulating on social media, with the warning that failing to carry the ‘green card’ could jeopardize one’s immigration status.
