Lawrence Dolan, Cleveland Guardians Owner, Dies

October 19, 2025

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) — Lawrence J. Dolan, the owner of the Cleveland Major League Baseball team since 2000, has died at age 94.

The Guardians of Cleveland announced on Monday via a press release that Dolan died Sunday night of natural causes.

A native of Cleveland, Dolan purchased the team from Richard Jacobs in 2000 for $320 million. The Dolan family is the franchise’s longest-tenured ownership group in Cleveland’s history.

The franchise was known as the Indians before changing its name to the Guardians following the 2021 season. In the last 24 seasons, Cleveland has claimed seven American League Central titles, logged nine postseason appearances, and advanced to the 2016 World Series before falling to the Chicago Cubs in seven games. Cleveland also hosted the All-Star Game in 2019.

Dolan is survived by his wife Eva, six children, and 21 grandchildren.
