Demolition Begins at Carlton Hotel Parking Lot in Tyler

October 26, 2025

TYLER, Texas (EAST TEXAS NEWS) – Demolition work on the Carlton Hotel’s parking garage in downtown Tyler is scheduled to begin this Monday.

The timeline was accelerated after more bricks fell from the parking structure onto Elm Street Friday night. The building owner, NORF Companies, said a demolition contractor would come on Monday to tear down the most compromised section, the south wall.

Demolition is expected to start within 48 hours of the contractor’s arrival, and could take about two weeks to complete.

Around 11:40 a.m., demolition equipment could be seen inside the building. By noon, crews had already begun the work.

The workers were tethered to the ceiling, using crowbars to topple the brick wall brick by brick.
